Good News First? Read Part One. Bad News First? Skip to Part Two.

PART ONE: I have heard throught the grapevine that a sister, or possibly sisters, to the iPhone will be available in January 2010 for Verizon customers.  Most likely this will include the iPhone Nano/Lite or the mythical Media Pad.

PART TWO:  Turns out the classic iPhone that we all know and love will most likely not be available to Verizon users.  This would upset the deal with AT&T and cause a whole ripple effect of problems because AT&T grew to 80 million customers, the current size of Verizon, thanks to Apple’s iPhone.

PART THREE: Weren’t expecting this were you?  Check this out for more information regarding Verizon Wireless and the future of the iPhone.

The long rumored Apple tablet/netbook.  Rumored for the last decade, this little bit of Apple technology could be set to be released as early as spring 2010.  The design has not been confirmed yet by the recently-returned Mr. Jobs himself, who has recently returned from recovery  however many artists’ imaginations have run rampant in coming up with said designs.  I decided to dig up a few and give my opinion.

So this looks like a glorified digital photo frame. I mean really, get with 2010 whoever you are artist.  Massive rounded shape? Really?! I prefer my

Now who is this little beauty?  Hook up a keyboard and it’s time for me to head over to the Apple store.  This is truly worthy of a projected $499.  With a full Apple OS? Seriously, I want it now.  It even has USB ports, making that keyboard totally possible.  Did I mention the design is beautiful?   **** Macbook Pro. Give me this one now.

Number three.

Number three.

Now we’re getting somewhere on the keyboard concept.  But we’re presented with two other issues:  flimsy little plastic stand? Big no.  Issue number two with this little stand is power supply.  My Apple touchscreen computer better have a convenient power supply outlet- like a power port on the stand, leading us to our next contender.

Now although this is a Media Pad concept, the dock is a major point of interest.  This keyboard is also a winner.  Nice little touchpad stuck on the side. If we stick #2 on this little number, we’ve got a winner.

#5 is our final contestant.  Once again, full OS.  Good size. 90s-esque speaker bar at the bottom is a no.  Not much else to say on this one.

DRUMROLL PLEASE:

And the winner is…

Number Two.  Just need to add a dock and external keyboard and this one’s ready to go.  Because of it’s side, this full keyboard could be functional in a pinch, however I think a handwriting recognition software and stylus compatible with apple’s heat-sensitive touch screen is another good typing option.  If this guy hits stores next year, I want it.

Of course this is all fine and dandy but there are a few flaws in the overall concept of a fully touch-screen netbook/tablet/macbook touch.

1. It’s a full touch screen.  I’d be taking this one nowhere without putting a case of some kind around it.

2. Battery life.  It takes a lot to power a massive touchscreen running full OS.

3. OS itself.  Snow Leopard please. No watered down OS or iPhone/iPod Touch format.

So Apple, listen to me if you’re reading this.  I want a full OS, sleek looks, dock, and external keyboard. You’ll be seeing me soon.

And by the way loyal readers, if you’d like another take on Apple’s latest development, check this out:

The iPhone for Verizon Wireless?

Yes you heard it right.  Verizon Wireless may be the new carrier of the iPhone.  Is this a good thing? I think it’s fantastic.

The new face of the iPhone?

The new face of the iPhone?

As you may already know, the iPhone has been available outside of AT&T and tMobile for some time now in Europe.  However, we have yet to see this in the good ol’ USofA because of an exclusive contract between Apple and AT&T.   However, this contract is set to expire some time in 2010 to the delight of Verizon customers everywhere.

So why would Apple want to partner up with Verizon anyway?

  • Verizon has a 4G network in the works
  • A partnership with Verizon would could double the number of nationwide iPhone users
  • A possible iPhone Lite and Media Pad
  • It would make Frei happy.

Now onward to the iPhone Lite and Media Pad.

Lite and Media Pad

Lite and Media Pad

Could this be the future of the iPhone?  Of course, I have no scale reference to go with this.  Above the light is a concept of the Media Pad. Not bad for general computing, however more on Verizon’s take of the Media Pad later.  Here is another take on the iPhone Lite, the iPhone Nano.  Looks simply like a little brother to the 3G iPhone.

Up next, the Media Pad.

A Media Pad concept.

A Media Pad concept.

My first reaction to the Media Pad: WTF.  Other sources claim that the Media Pad could be used to make phone calls via Wi-Fi, watch high-def video, and listen to music.  Let’s look back at the first concept.  Now I can totally see everyone in on the latest tech trends walking around with one of these behemoths pressed against their ear.  The latter concept photo is not much of an improvement.  If this is Apple’s answer to the netbook, I’m unimpressed.  This could be a deadly move for Verizon if the Media Pad comes to life. Just stick to the netbook, please.

Back to the present:

Of course all of this is unconfirmed.  Verizon may not carry the iPhone at all.  However nearly all news points to an iPhone for Verizon, no matter what shape or model it comes in.
